Coming Soon: Plant Studio at the New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden's Continuing Education program is about to begin something new. Consider it as a silver lining to the covid-19 shut downs of 2020 when taking in-person classes was resticted. Today, there are both in-person and on-line classes, also occasional Zoom lectures, with a typically hour-long talk became available as one off events. This has now been cleverly expanded to the Plant Studio.

Starting in April with five subjects, it will work like this:
Plant Studio courses are hosted on the NYBG's online learning management, Canvas. Content is delivered weekly through pre-recorded videos with the Garden’s plant professionals. Each course will include weekly lectures, readings, assignments, and a final project on which students receive individualized feedback. Students will have the opportunity to connect with course facilitators and each other through online discussion boards.

There is no requirement to log in at any particular time to receive instruction. Course content can be accessed anywhere, anytime, as long as an internet connection is available. Course content is modular, with new content released each week of the course run. Students have one week to complete any requirements, if they are seeking to earn a digital credential.

Course content will released weekly, on Wednesdays. Expect to spend about 3 hours each week watching course videos, completing course readings and assignments, and answering prompts on the course discussion boards. The five topics offered in this session are Plant Science, Landscape Design History for Beginners, Orchid Design, Container Gardening, and Pruning Basics.
